It is a very focussed functionality that should be easy to redo.
On a general note, I'm meanwhile considering in a similar line of thought that
it might be time to try removing the Spring dependency from uimaFIT and
re-implement or shade the relevant functionalities into uimaFIT to reduce
version conflicts with Spring dependencies for users of uimaFIT. Even though
Spring does a great job of being forward compatible, problems tend to crop up
when different versions of spring artifacts crop up on the dependency hierarchy.
