Andy Kurth commented on VCL-710:
--------------------------------
I agree. It isn't intuitive that when you delete an image from the web
interface it doesn't actually get deleted from disk. The reason why image
files aren't actually deleted is to prevent problems if a user accidentally
deletes an image. This however introduces disk space problems which VCL
currently has no way to handle. We are often running custom scripts to clean
up deleted images.
A new interface could be added to list all deleted images which haven't been
deleted from disk. An admin could select images to permanently delete. We
could add a new imagedeleted state to be processed by vcld. In order to delete
the image from all possible locations, it would need to be processed by all
management nodes and all VM hosts.

> It would be nice if VCL's web interface had a way to permanently delete an
> image, along with removing the base image file from storage for certain
> kinds, like VM images.
