Hi Folks,

I Forwarded this email to you, to see if we can provide the Letter to her.
I think for us it will be straightforward and it will help us to build a
better community. What do you think about this proposal ?

Dear Apache Wayang Team,

I’m Begum Demir, head of the Remote Sensing Image Analysis Team at TU
Berlin. Together with Dr. Jorge-Arnulfo Quiané-Ruiz, we plan to develop a
content-based satellite image search engine, called AGORA-EO. The AGORA-EO
search engine’s backend will be powered by Apache Wayang to be able to
index and query multiple data sources. For our ideas, we are currently
writing a project proposal to European Research Council. We believe that
our project, if accepted, will significantly contribute to Apache Wayang as
Dr. Quiané has already discussed with some of you.

In this line, we would like to ask you if you can support our project
proposal by writing a letter of interest?

Details about our project:

*Title*: *AGORA-EO: Indexing and Querying Earth from Federated Big Data
Archives *

*Aim:* The AGORA-EO search engine develops the emerging tools for the
accurate and scalable indexing and querying of satellite images from
massive archives. We plan to bring the AGORA-EO search engine to a higher
maturity level, demonstrating its value, success and technical feasibility
by a prototype.

*Innovation Potential*: The main innovation in AGORA-EO is the product
innovation as a (content-based) EO data search engine that makes Copernicus
data findable and accessible in operational applications (based on the
complex content of the EO data). This is fully in line with the European
Commission’s strategy in the Digital Europe Programme. AGORA-EO search
engine is the first content-based search engine that comprises advanced
methods (for EO data representation learning, content based EO data
indexing and search together with big data processing and management
approaches) in knowledge discovery from big EO data archives for
global-scale applications. The innovations that are brought with AGORA-EO
complete the missing technological piece in the online platforms where
Copernicus data can be accessed (e.g., five DIAS platforms) and thus
broaden the range of users and applications that are exploiting EO data in
their business processes. While ‘Google Images’ indexes and searches web
images, AGORA-EO indexes Earth and queries by example from massive EO
archives. As a whole, AGORA-EO modernizes access ways to the EO data that
is complementary to the existing tools for keyword/tag-based search.

Best regards,
Begum Demir
