I think that "the press" is a subset of "people looking..." so they're 
one group. There is also a bit of a connection between "native lang" and 
"new users who need help" (e.g. some will want help in French).

But yes, I think the order is fair. I think I'd put NLC one notch higher.

Let's not ask "what items are of interest?". We can't list everything that 
is of interest. Think of the front page as a finite resource. You can have 
at most x number of items in it. What are the top x items you'd pick?

I think that the mockup I made shows a very good selection.
