Hello

These notes accompany an image that I have uploaded to the SiteReDo
folder in the Documents & Files section. I can see it as:
http://website.openoffice.org/files/documents/28/2423/prototype_j1.png
but I think Kay or Louis needs to approve it before you can see it.

The colours are not representative or suggested, just crayons that I
have available and I like bright colours :)

The prototype maintains the same header and footer, except the login has
been removed and replaced with the Search box.

The prototype shows three main buttons down the left side:

- OpenOffice.org 1.1.4 Download - click to display
http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.4/index.html

- New to OpenOffice.org - click to display landing page for new visitors
to the OpenOffice.org web site, project, community, or new to
OpenOffice.org the product.

- Native Language Confederation - click to display
http://native-lang.openoffice.org/ or
http://projects.openoffice.org/native-lang.html

The right sides:

- Wide narrow height column with short description of what is
OpenOffice.org, both a product and a project with links from
OpenOffice.org components to the appropriate product pages. Small text
links to case studies, testimonials and awards.

- Two boxes of similar size:

- Hold one large article or two smaller articles with link to page
displaying previous articles.

- "In the news" to list the news items as we do now, but include a
smaller link under the heading "...Press Room" to link to
http://marketing.openoffice.org/press/

Where have all the links gone?

- "Coming Events" to be moved to
http://marketing.openoffice.org/conference/ and linked from the
Marketing Project. These can be mentioned in the article section if and
when required.

- Developer and early release builds to be mentioned on the Download page.

- Sitemap has been incorporated in "New to OpenOffice.org", but if still
required, perhaps this can be included in or near the footer, alongside
the SourceCast "Get help?".

- Login moved to subsequent pages.

- Move "Project Guidelines" to http://projects.openoffice.org/

New page - "New to OpenOffice.org"
- Welcome to OpenOffice.org, describe both product and community.
- Describe tabs across the top; Home, Download, Support, Development,
Projects, and how to get around once leave this and home page. Let
people know what is behind the tabs so they will have more confidence
about clicking on them. Also, the fact that they can access these tabs
from anywhere on the site.

Welcome page to include guidance/map with couple sentence description
for with links to relevant page:
- About Us
- Licenses - I feel this needs to be re-written for people that wish to
just use OpenOffice.org. At present, probably include in Contribute section.
- Contribute - include To Do list
- Donate
- Mailing Lists
- FAQ

Notes:

1. I find it disconcerting when articles are only up for a matter of
days or even only hours. Articles to be archived on "Articles,
Interviews, Blogs, and Newsletters" page. Recommend that articles are up
for 5-7 days to allow people in different time zones) to read the
article before being moved to an archive page.

2. Left nav bar on subsequent pages to remain the same, or if changed
top portion to remain constant.

I wanted the Native Language Confederation to feature prominently as I
feel that a small link or box does not properly guide or represent a
very large section of our community.

I have tried to be succinct, but if my accompanying notes are terse,
please do not hesitate to ask. I look forward to your feedback.

Regards
Jacqueline
