The new page is a definite improvement on the old one, but I don't understand a few decisions that were made, presumably after discussion on a list that I don't subscribe to.

Why does this page say prominently in the middle, "The new website"? This seems to me utterly irrelevant to new visitors and distracting from the message of the page -- which surely should be about *OpenOffice.org, the program and community* and NOT about the website itself!

I agree with you on this point, think Louis changed it as the previous title was OpenOffice 2.0 is out now!... and therefore it stayed like that... maybe we should change it to "Free your files!"... or something else more general indeed.

I think the eggs are a distracting and irrelevant image, too. Everyone who's seem them says to me, "what's with the eggs?" I don't know what to tell them.

I foresaw some discussion on the eggs :) ... it was my idea to put them there (during design it functioned as placeholder)... but it is a conceptual thing: the eggs are seagull eggs, and the seagull is part of the openoffice.org brand. so the eggs relate to the upcoming 2.0 version :)
