It's a good page, Kay, and with the graphics will be even better. :)
I'd would add to that: please be careful adding different styles of graphics, that results imho in messy layouts (I personally prefer minimal over bloated). Also: if it is hard to find the right graphic, don't use meaningless graphics. You can put it online without graphics if you ask me, we can always update it later. It's already much friendlier.
It's hard to come up with hard and fast categories, but I'd suggest shorter names, since there is more description further down. For example:

Products
Support
i18n
Extension
Promotion
Good suggestion, I'd only wouldn't call it i18n, but the less cryptic "Internationalization"

Thanks so much for the one word descriptions! Yes, I was hoping someone could come up with a nice short scheme like this.

One word grabs the eye, then they click on it to find out more. ;)
Every header could have, before the seperate projects are listed, a short introduction, which may explain how the projects interrelate or something... or what kind of tasks one may expect in these subprojects.

Hmmmm....I had intended to include Kay Ramme's chart on this page somehow, but, yes, I think some sort of "interlacing" is highly desirable. I haven't come up with any good ideas on this one.

I don't know if QA fits with i18n, but it doesn't really fit anywhere else, either. :S Certainly a lot of the QA time is spent on non- English builds, but it applies to the default builds, as well.
I'd suggest adding it to support... while it is quite different from writing end-user documentation, yet I believe QA attracts the same kind of contributors: namely those who are quite knowledgeable about OOo, but aren't hardcore programmers too.

Furthermore, since the product components category already contains quite some projects, maybe it is good to make some subgroupings... Furthermore, I think dba should be among the products-category too (it's now listed under extension, but is actually a product).

My main reason for doing this, well, dare I say, OUR main reason, should be to get folks pointed as quickly as possible to "projects" that may be of interest to them. My problem, in looking into this, is that I had a difficult time in offering clear explanations for some of the projects, frankly. OK, thanks for the feedback on the DBA business. Like I said, difficult for me to make good assessments on some of these.
