I agree.

Where do participants like me stand after this exchange?

I am not being coy or precious but I have been told recently that my
help is not needed. See
                             "From:

It seems that people want to move on to actual page design before
creating a Strategic Communications Plan. If this is the direction that
this project is taking, so be it. But don't let me run off on a wild
goose chase looking for data and reference sites, if there is no
intention of even looking at them.

I did ask earlier what was the administrative or governance arrangement
for this project.

I noticed that most of the contributors so far are SUN Microsystem
staff. Is this in reality a SUN project?

In the same email I was told:
"I think the time has passed for that. This homepage has a fairly clear
objective, or triad of objectives, and our audience is known. We need
to act now. The designs that have been proffered hare steps but I
think we can finalize the design ideas by the end of this week."

What are the fairly clear objectives? What audience is known?

I really want to help. My participation is fairly disinterested -- I am
not building a resume etc. Let me tell you a story:

A couple of weeks ago I gave a small talk on the advantages of Linux to
a group of 20 Microsoft non-tech users. Of course, I recommended OOo as
the better alternative to Microsoft Office. The Q & A afterwards all
revolved around concerns about using OOo. That is to "sell" Linux I had
to first "sell" OOo.

I created a handout for that talk. I could find no site to put at the
top of the Linux sites list that "sold" Linux. After the talk, I looked
at OOo home page. It wasn't any better. It was not a place I would
send *potential* new users.

Since then I have looked at the OOo home page as a viable site for
"selling" Microsoft OS users and Mac users as well. Really you need a
strong commitment to OOo to sort your way through it.

It is on that basis that I would like to help on the redesign
(particularly the Communications Strategy part) of the OOo home page(s).

"The wiki has its uses but is not ideal for conversations and not
everyone uses it. It is useful especially for illustrating ideas."

Please let me know, if my input can be helpful and if so, where is the
best site to introduce that input.
