Hi *,

Currently, mail from unsubsribed mail addresses to users@, duscus@ and others, is passed through by the moderator.

I propose to change that, so that unsubscribed posters receive an automatic reply explaining about subscription and the main lists for various purposes.

The reasons are various, but all closely related.
Pls mind: I do not talk about all the mails send by unsubscribed posters. So reasons for the proposal are: * regularly and repeatedly there are threads on users@, that origin from moderated mails, that lead to long, unproductive discussions; * very often unclear posts lead to discussions or requests for clarification, without that the 'OP' ever takes trouble to reply or help; * mails from which one can read easily that the poster didn't take the slightest trouble to take a real look at OpenOffice.org reg. the question, are led through to the lists; * often moderated mails to users@ and discuss@ are provocative, impolite, contrary to our with our own mail list guidelines;
* provocative mails are sent with non-existing mail addresses;
* subscription, searching archives, visiting the forum are all easy and can not be seen as a barrier for people who take little time for a serious request;
* those mails filthy the archives and spoil bandwith and serverspace;
* it's a waste of time for all the people that seriously try to answer;
* it's a pity to have to focus our energy on those negative posts.

I strongly believe that people seriously wanting to ask a question or post an idea, will not at all be offended or discouraged by a friendly mail explaining where to find support or how to subcribe to list x for purpose y.

But... that's all IMO and what I believe.
What do others think?

Kindest regards,
Cor
