2) I did not see the breadcrumb in the DE pages, therefore created a new
page just called DE - seems to me that the introduction of subpages
needs substantial restructuring of the whole page tree.
Could this be a redirect to the German Main Page (instead of a copy)?
For example in new DE page you created, just have the syntax:
#REDIRECT [[Deutsche_Übersetzung]]
This should work... and it'll create a DE root in the breadcrumb without
needing to create a new page with new content.
