What I've scripted this to do is ONLY supply the applet approach if the LiveConnect approach does not work. So, hopefully, your experiences will bear this out. You'll see the normal debugging banter so don't be alarmed.

I've tested in FF 2.0.x, with and without Java enabled; and Konqueror 3.5 with and without java enabled, and results are what I expected/ wanted.

If I understand what you want it to do, it works correctly on Mac OS 10.5.4 using Firefox 3.0.1, Camino 1.6.1, and Opera 9.5.1. Your script shows:

   Liveconnect version: 1.5.0_13
   ParseFloat conversion: 1.5

Clicking on download shows:

   Download now!
   Start downloading OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 for Mac OSX Intel in US English
   Applet JRE version:

Using Safari your script shows:

   Writing applet

Clicking on download shows:

   Download now!
   Start downloading OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 for Mac OSX Intel in US English
