I've been keeping an eye on the new user registrations since adding the Captcha. It seems to be working. New user registrations are still coming in at a regular pace, but none are obvious Spam accounts (buy_something, enlarge_this patterns we used to see a lot of). I've also been watching the Ban user logs, and the general Spam content... it's also pretty much non-existent - especially compared to a few months ago before the various steps were taken. These anti-spam controls do not stop people from uploading Spam images and other binary content.... but it has certainly had a dramatic affect on reducing the volume.
