Hi Devs,

Apache Stratos announced 4.1.0-Alpha developer preview very recently. We
are planning to release WSO2 Private PaaS (PPaaS) 4.1.0 based on Apache
Stratos 4.1.0. The only addition for Stratos in PPaaS would be WSO2 product
cartridges.

*Major Features in Stratos 4.1.0*
--------------------------------------------

*1. Composite Application Model*
This feature allows to create applications by grouping cartridges together
for modelling real world scenarios:

Examples:
a) For a solution that uses Tomcat and MySQL, an application could be
created by grouping Tomcat and MySQL cartridges.

b) For API-M, an application could be created by grouping Key Manager,
Publisher, Store and API Gateway cartridges.

*2. Docker support with Google Kubernetes*
Stratos uses Kubenetes for running Docker cartridges on a clustered Docker
environment. Currently we use Kubernetes v0.5.3 and planning to upgrade it
to the latest in 4.1.0 GA release.

*Cartridge Creation Process*
---------------------------------------

*1. VM based Cartridges*
- Create a puppet module for installing and configuring a WSO2 product, we
should be able to re-use most of the content from the puppet modules
released in PPaaS 4.0.0.
- Implement clustering configuration in the above puppet module using the
composite application model and cartridge agent extensions.
- Create a base VM cartridge image or reuse an existing in the required
IaaS (OpenStack, EC2, etc).
- Test the cartridge on the selected IaaS and verify: clustering, artifact
distribution, autoscaling, etc.

*2. Docker based Cartridges*
- Create Docker images required for installing and configuring a WSO2
product.
- Implement clustering configuration using the composite application model
and cartridge agent extensions.
- Test the cartridge on Kubernetes and verify: clustering, artifact
distribution, autoscaling, etc.

If anyone is interested on contributing to this please reply to this mail.

Thanks
