Hi,
If with Saxon the interface to defining a filter is such that one can
easily set parameters to be passed in to the stylesheet at
transformation time then the lack of xforms:repeat becomes less of an
issue because filters can be written to generate XForms inputs, and
the processor can determine how often to repeat something by a user
chosen parameter. It is obviously still far from optimal but it is a
partial solution.
Hi Bryan,
Thanks for the tip on alternative technique there, I will have to
have a look at Saxon and see how it handles things in this way and
how it compares.

Hi,
for OOo 3 we plan to exchange the Java Xerces/Xalan duo, once
added to
provide stable XSLT quality, with the Java Saxon XSLT processor.
By this the XSLT filters would benefit from its implementation of
the
newer W3C standards of the XPath 2.0, XSLT 2.0, and XQuery 1.0
specifications.
(Personally believe I have noticed as well a better error
reporting and
efficiency behavior of Saxon9).
Dependencies to Xerces/Xalan in the OOo sources are under
progress to be
adapted to the new environment in my CWS xsltfilter10.
Unlikely this will make it into OOo 3.0, but otherwise it will
become
available in OOo 3.1.
Hi Svante,
I am glad to see that more development is happening with the
associated XML
technologies here. I understand that much more capabilities will
be possible
with the newer specifications and better processor in Saxon. My main
question is will these new capabilities be implemented in the
XForm part of
OpenOffice.org? My main interest is having not just the xform
backend, but
other features such as the xforms:repeat capabilities and other more
advanced operations. Is this something that will be coming with
the new
Saxon processor?

Jonathon
