I downloaded Saxon 8.8 from sourceforge, and used it with the XmlBeans 2.2 release. Unfortunately, the two releases do not appear to be compatible (when performing XPath expressions, I get a ClassCastException in net.sf.saxon.value.Value.convertToBestFit).
