Yes that's normal. Jahia doesn't modify the server.xml file when
deploying a webapp.

When deploing a new webbapp, is Jahia supposed to add something to
tomcat's "server.xml"? I deployed the "hello_webapp" but there's no
trace of it in server.xml. Is that normal?

I would suggest trying with a fresh install or checking your JVM, your
XML parsers, etc. You might also want to increase the logging output, as
documented here :

Hi Johan,
Normally I wouldn't do this because we can't afford to test every single
test web app we get sent, but I guess you were lucky.
Anyway, I tested your WAR after modifying the location of the index.jsp
with Jahia 4.0.6_01 and I had no such error as you describe. Make sure
you are using a standard installation of Jahia and a 1.4 JDK.

Ok, I fixed the index.jsp but still no luck. I get the same error msg.
Surely there must be some setting in Jahia that's doing this?

And the structure of the hello.war:
META-INF
------MANIFEST.MF
WEB-INF
-------\CLASSES
------------------HelloServlet.class
-------index.jsp
-------web.xml
Is Index.jsp in the right place?
Nope it's not. It should be at the root of your web application :
hello.war/index.jsp if you see what I mean.
