Some symbols are not available in the GSM03.38 character set, in which case setting the encoding to 8bit when sending to Kannel may or may not solve the problem. additionally, some handsets (especially older models) may not display all special chracters - for example, '[' and ']' are always problematic, with Nokia you need something as new as or newer then 6120 for proper display of those 'extended GSM 03.38' characters.

hi all i am using kannel to provide Financial services to a bank client, however i am having problems displaying some symbols for example $ , [ and @ i am pulling the information from a HTTP website i keep getting some strange ASCII symbols that looks like a U with to dots on top of it?
any help would be great.
