it looks ugly (IMHO). What about , just to allow either receiver or 
transmitter or transceiver ? Like so:
group = smsc
smsc = smpp
port = xxx
host = xxx

group = smsc
smsc = smpp
receive-port = xxx
receive-host = xxx

??
