The only perspective I have is that of alerts from internet content
providers, e.g. Yahoo stock alerts, sports alerts, etc. These guys use
commercial SMPP clients or build their own. I don't know how you would
handle callback in true SMS (Mobile Originated - Mobile Terminated).

Callback number is not a feature on the SMPP client that I use. I would
check out some of the commercial clients and ask if they support this
parameter. Or you can google: smpp perl to get a perl module. You can
then add support for the parameters you need. Go to SMS forum at
http://www.smpp.org/ to get the SMPP protocol specs.
