The only perspective I have is that of alerts from internet content providers, e.g. Yahoo stock alerts, sports alerts, etc. These guys use commercial SMPP clients or build their own. I don't know how you would handle callback in true SMS (Mobile Originated - Mobile Terminated).
Callback number is not a feature on the SMPP client that I use. I would check out some of the commercial clients and ask if they support this parameter. Or you can google: smpp perl to get a perl module. You can then add support for the parameters you need. Go to SMS forum at http://www.smpp.org/ to get the SMPP protocol specs. I hope that helps somewhat. J.
