Could you provide a little more information on  how to do this .
I'm a linux newbie. I ran a query on my rpm but didn’t find any useful
information on how the libraries were compiled.

This depends on how your RPM was compiled. This should be
viewable by looking at the dynamic libraries dependencies of your
kannel binaries (bearerbox, smsbox).
