Hello group,

I am working in a development team and have been given the taskk to install kannel on my machine.  But I
am having numerous problems.

1.  I tried installing the kannel through binary packes.  It failed, since no pacakage was available for my
distro RedHat Linux (4.5.3).  I had downloaded

kannel-1.3.2-3.0.rh7.fr.i386.rpm

2.  I was given the advice to compile instead of installing through packages.

3.  I downloaded the source ungzipped/untarred it and issued the command

./configure

It gave me following error on my machine

libxml version 2.5.10 is too old.  I need 2.6.0 version.

4.  I then downloaded package version libxml2-2.6.27-1 .386-rpm(latest available)

and tried to install it.

It gave me following error

warning: libxml2-2.6.27-1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID de95bc1f

error: Failed dependencies:

libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3.4) is needed by libxml2-2.6.27-1

libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4) is needed by libxml2-2.6.27-1

rtld(GNU_HASH) is needed by libxml2-2.6.27-1

5.  Then I went for a hunt for libc.so.6  and downloaded glibx-2.3.5.tar.gz, which contains libc.so.6.  When I

tried to untar/ungzip it, it created a directory.  And this tar.gz also does not have package, which I can

install for libc.so.6.

6.  I am stuck at this point i.e. to get/install libc.so.6 and rtld.  Then I will have to rewind the stack of

problems.  Can someone help me in installing/compiling the kannel.

All step are listed chronologically.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.  I am not sure what more errors I am going to get in the future.

Thanks.

arun
