The Legacy BIOS SIG is a good proposal to handle this sort of ongoing work in

I do not agree with this statement. Like previous "Legacy SIGs" this is a
red herring to obfuscate RHATs lack of disinterest with topics, which do not
match into their business objectives.
Really? Fedora is mainly a volunteer effort, someone has to do the work.
SIG is a good solution. RedHat is under no obligation to work on
everything.

Anything that adds to the bureaucracy level of a project or community in general is never a good thing since such process gets in the way of the people that are actually doing all the work ( more often than not too much energy spent on bureaucracy than the actual work itself ).

In this case that SIG would be created for no good reason since the outcome is inevitable.

What the project needs to decide upon is...

For how long should fedora support any given hardware ( electric components do not last forever ) ?

For example EU has regulation that requires vendors to have spare parts available for 7–10 years after date of manufacturing so it makes sense for the project to support hw no longer than a decade from the date of it's manufacturing. ( which makes the oldest hw being support being manufactured in 2012 ) and every process, workflows and decision being bound by that.

Is Fedora an distribution that does not revert but always transforms, rolls out and moves forward or is it an distribution that is stuck in the past ( from a software and hardware point of view )?
