I'm sympathetic to your "we shouldn't block people from maintaining things if they want to" argument, but I have to disagree here. There's only so much time that the community can collectively devote to Fedora and this is not a place I'd like us to spend it. If someone really wants to maintain a package that upstream has moved on from, then good for them.
