Hi everyone,

Since fesco#3447 [1], Golang library packages have been exempted from automatic retirement as part of the orphaned packages and FTBFS processes pending the creation of the new vendored Golang Packaging Guidelines. This was done to avoid unnecessary churn before we were ready to make the Golang -devel packages obsolete as part of the new Guidelines. These Guidelines have been approved by the FPC and are live [2], so this exemption is going away.

The current plan is to start processing these retirements again in six weeks, meaning that any package orphaned before today will be retired in six weeks from today and any package orphaned after that will be retired six weeks after they were orphaned, as per the usual policy. This change has been implemented in the tooling in [3].

If you have any questions, suggestions, or objections, please let me know. And please migrate your Golang packages to the new Guidelines! If you find any issues with the new tooling, you can report them in the Go Vendor Tools issue tracker [4].

Best,
Maxwell
