This proposal will only be implemented if approved by the Fedora Engineering Steering Committee. == Summary == Replace the nwg-shell with Dank Material Shell (built on QuickShell) for the Fedora MiracleWM spin. == Owner == * Name: [[User:mattkae| Matthew Kosarek]], [[User:ngompa| Neal Gompa]] * Email: [email protected], [email protected] == Detailed Description == This Change involves packaging the [https://danklinux.com/ Dank Material Shell] overlay to [https://quickshell.org/ QuickShell] and updating {{package|miracle-wm-config}} so the default shell for new installs uses it. == Feedback == == Benefit to Fedora == The nwg-shell experience has been difficult to maintain and stabilize for MiracleWM, with updates subtly breaking the experience on a regular basis. Switching to a QuickShell-based experience will give us a higher quality UX that has better stability as it is updated and maintained as part of the spin. == Scope == * Proposal owners: ** Package <code>DankMaterialShell</code> ** Update {{package|miracle-wm-config}} to ship configuration to activate DMS as the shell * Other developers: N/A * Release engineering: [ https://forge.fedoraproject.org/releng/tickets/issues/13167 #13167] * Policies and guidelines: N/A (not needed for this Change) * Trademark approval: N/A (not needed for this Change) * Alignment with the Fedora Strategy: No == Upgrade/compatibility impact == Existing systems will retain the nwg-shell configuration unless they purge their configuration and relogin, which will trigger MiracleWM's behavior to instantiate the user settings. They will get DMS in that scenario. == Early Testing (Optional) == N/A == How To Test == Once everything is packaged, grabbing a new Fedora MiracleWM Rawhide ISO, installing it, and trying to interact with the system is sufficient for testing. == User Experience == This will be a drastic user experience change, as swapping from nwg-shell to DMS will be a huge upgrade.
