The "upgrade" from 0.32.14 to 0.33.alpha on Feb 9, 2026 was a wrong decision by the packager: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/shotwell/c/abf705de5b6203bb3f85454231f8b9149d1ae401 Briefly looking at the tags of the project (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/shotwell/-/tags) would be a clear indication that there were 4 newer 0.32.x branch releases (at the time) and no follow-up 0.33.x alpha release since Jan 27, 2025 (!). The Shotwell 0.33.x series is a port to GTK4 and is apparently taking longer. On the positive note, there has been new development in the last month: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/shotwell/-/commits/master?ref_type=heads And the Shotwell 33 milestone has also been updated recently: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/shotwell/-/milestones/16#tab-issues Fedora should only upgrade Shotwell to 0.33.x series once it has been completed (i.e. released as stable) by the upstream. And it might happen in the Fedora 45 time-frame or it might take longer. > Going back to the stable series in the f44 and rawhide will be > tricky. Given Fedora 44 has just come out, I think this demands a quick reaction before even more users upgrading from earlier Fedora versions are affected. In practical terms, the reasonable thing would be to "downgrade" the package to the 0.32.15 release from Mar 1, 2026 and set the Epoch to 1 to ensure a smooth package "upgrade" from 0.33.alpha to 0.32.15? A must is to also check if there were any backwards-incompatible changes to the configuration or SQLite db schema in the 0.33.alpha release. If there are any, these need to be carefully considered...
