FTR: scribus is fixed now. Inkscape carries fixes for recent poppler on their master branch. They don't apply cleanly to 1.4.4, though, as you've probably found out. I'm not going to investigate further (sorry), since I don't know inkscape's code base at all. One of those inkscape commits (fixing some recent poppler) has a couple of pointers to poppler docs which might help. Just `git log -i --grep=poppler origin/master` on an inkscape checkout.
