Hi all, I'm Andrew Heath, I'd like to introduce myself as I get started contributing to the Fedora Project.
I've spent a little over a decade working in enterprise Linux, and I'm currently a Senior Platform Engineer and Team Lead at Red Hat IT, where I've been since 2019. My team owns the architecture, security, and availability of core internal and external DNS (Infoblox), bastion hosts, and Squid proxies across the enterprise. Day to day I spend most of my time on infrastructure as code and automation at scale — Ansible Automation Platform, GitLab CI/CD, and an automated golden image pipeline built on Image Builder that standardizes OS image generation for our cloud and on-premise VM fleet. A lot of that work is about making sure every system is built and maintained to a known, compliant baseline, so OpenSCAP, SELinux, and Satellite/Foreman are familiar territory. Before Red Hat I was a System Program Analyst at East Carolina University, where I co-architected the university's Ansible environment, stood up a central Red Hat Satellite server, and helped scale their private OpenStack cloud supporting Banner, Blackboard, and the main university web infrastructure. Earlier than that I ran the network and Linux infrastructure for a manufacturing plant, including a migration of the corporate web environment from Windows IIS to Apache on RHEL. I hold a B.S. in Information Technology from ECU. On the Fedora side, I'm running Fedora as my daily driver and I've been a downstream consumer of this work for most of my career — RHEL, CentOS, Rocky, Podman, OpenShift. I'd like to start giving back upstream rather than only consuming. Where I think I can be useful: - Packaging and maintenance — I'm interested in becoming a package maintainer and would appreciate a sponsor. I'm happy to start by co-maintaining existing packages or picking up orphaned ones in the automation/sysadmin tooling space, which is where my experience is deepest. - Image building and composes — I work with Image Builder and osbuild regularly in production and would like to contribute to that ecosystem. - QA and testing — I'm comfortable filing good bug reports and would like to help with release validation testing. - Ansible and infrastructure automation — the Fedora Infrastructure team's work overlaps heavily with my day job, and I'd be glad to help there. My FAS account is aheath1992. I'm still working through the packaging guidelines and getting set up, so pointers on good first tasks are very welcome. If anyone is looking for help in one of the areas above, please reach out. Thanks, and looking forward to working with you all. -- Andrew Heath [email protected] -- _______________________________________________ devel mailing list -- [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/[email protected] Do not reply to spam, report it: https://forge.fedoraproject.org/infra/tickets/issues/new
