Hi!

The Fedora 45 GA images for RISC-V (non-official, community-maintained)
are now available.

You can find the Server, Cloud, and Container artifacts here[1]. The
container images can also be found in the Quay registry[2].

Important: if you're upgrading from Fedora 44, make sure you check the
upgrade notes[3] beforehand. This especially applies to folks using the
generic kernel on boards based on the JH7110 SoC like the VisionFive 2,
since some storage setups (e.g., NVMe) run the risk of data corruption.

Notes on server images
----------------------

As usual, there are two kinds of server images available:

• Fedora-Server-Host-Omni: This image uses the Fedora "Omni" kernel
(7.3.0-65.1.riscv64.omni.fc45). The Omni kernel[4] aims to work on a
wider range of RISC-V boards, and is the recommended option for folks
installing on any physical hardware. Some patches in this kernel are
bleeding-edge backports, still under review on LKML, or pulled from
vendor trees. For details on the list of boards the Omni kernel should
work on, refer to this page[5].

• Fedora-Server-Host-Generic: This image uses the standard Fedora 7.3
kernel (7.3.0-65.riscv64.fc45). This kernel only contains upstream
drivers, and will only work fully in QEMU, though a few other boards
may boot with varying levels of functionality. Only use this image if
you are testing with QEMU or are comfortable debugging hardware
enablement issues. If you have been using the generic image on real
hardware prior to F45, please review the upgrade notes[3].

You can try these images in QEMU[6] or on real hardware[7]. Most of the
active discussion happens on the Fedora RISC-V Matrix channel[8]; please
report any issues there or on the issue tracker[9].

Known issues
------------

There are a couple of open issues with glibc and GCC on some hardware.
We're actively working with upstream maintainers. For details, refer to
these bug reports: GCC on SpacemiT K3[10] and glibc on Milk-V Titan[11]

PS: This post is also available on Fedora Discourse[12].
