Okay a bit more info :- F17 Anaconda is running at the same descent resolution as F16.
On F18 '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' is reporting VESA. I will try rolling an F19 ISO next just to rule out that its not a transient bug. In parallel I will see if I can track down what is causing the problem. Any pointers are welcome.
