This was long overdue, last update was almost a year ago. That said, the update should be safe: upstream-tracker.org lists only one warning that is potentially ABI-breaking, which is that the constant "eid_max" changed value. That constant doesn't appear to be used by any of the clients. Soname wasn't bumped.
