The major point is just leveraging a toolkit that people already use for live graphics. OpenFrameworks is another option and doesn't require Java, if a method is available to have it interoperate with the Milkymist.

Can't they use something else? The Java, hm, sorry, Processing syntax is
very close to C, which is a lot less trouble and runs faster. It worked
for Arduino... just copy the GUI/design maybe.
