Sigh. Joerg just set me straight on my elementary physics.
It's the charge that gets conserved but not the energy
stored in the capacitors.

The equations (with 20% tolerances, none of them favouring
us) thus become

Q = 4.78*220*.8
V = Q/(220*.8+15*1.2) = 4.34 V

Or, assuming the caps used only later don't get magically
involved,

V = Q/(220*.8+13*1.2) = 4.39 V

That's still enough. Add ESR and other real-life effects, and
it gets even more plausible that even little atusb can bring
down the mighty M1.
