I just noticed there is another software that uses the name libopal: http://www.voxgratia.org/ (their library is in Debian unstable).
No idea who "was first" or so, I just thought it may be helpful to know, if you don't already; it may cause "interesting" interactions if users have both installed somewhere.. Cheers, Ralf
