Another question is what descriptors do they expose once in DFU mode? Can you do an lsusb after switching to DFU mode? I guess for this it is important to run dfu-util without the -R option. I can not test this myself currently. My two DfuSe devices are always in DFU mode (manual switch on power-on), the others (bluetooth on laptops) I can not get into DFU mode - maybe some kernel module is blocking them by claiming other interfaces.
