Hi There I am trying to write a linux framebuffer device driver for the silicon motion lynx3DM chip. As I am stranded I looked into how Xfree86 programs the chip. Using the source I tried to make a proof-of-concept mode switch using the low level register info from the xfree driver.
This does not work. I end up with a blank screen. The xfree silicon motion driver however does also have a blank screen for some seconds, before finally displaying the grayish X background. My question are now. What does X do before one can see anything on the screen? call some DPMS bios call? Setting some standard unblanking VGA registers? Pointers to info would be nice.
