I cannot reproduce any of the problems with SVN trunk, neither with 5.10.0, nor with 5.8.8 (using ActivePerl builds 1004 and 822 respectively, as well as VC6). I don't have Visual Studio .NET 2003 installed though, so I can't check if it is a problem with that compiler.
