Hi Hristo, I'm glad you want to join the project -- welcome aboard!
Currently I'm going through the " Getting into development" section of the site. I must say that the official ITU H.265 documentation is quite hard to read for a new-comer like me, so I'm focusing mainly on the h265_companion.html. In this sense and my 1st newbie question - Is the previous version of the specification (I'm referring the book MPEG video compression standard) more suitable for a getting-into terms of the project?
I would say, not really. I have yet to find a book who did a good job of explaining how H.264 works. There are however some good "overview" papers that explains how things work at a higher level. If you *really* want to understand how it works under the hood, reading the spec is a necessary evil. Otherwise, the companion, the overview papers and the code itself are probably good enough.
So If there is a need for a want-to-learn developer like me, I'll be glad to participate in the project.
There sure is! Given your interests, I would say implementing WPP multithreading is an option, but it's a difficult job -- it might not be the best place to start for a new developer. There are easier jobs like PCM or lossless encoding. We can discuss it further once you got acquainted with the spec/code base.
