Hi all,

Given the *current* situation with Fedora and OpenMotif,
the OpenMotif
team
(openmotif.org) is committed to providing prebuilt binaries for Fedora. They might be useful to the Nedit team.
Are you referring to:
openmotif-2.3.0-0.3.fc7.ccrma.i386.rpm
openmotif-devel-2.3.0-0.3.fc7.ccrma.i386.rpm

Because I have compiled nedit (and another Motif program) against them. They don't work for me (on an F7 X86_64 system).

Just to be sure we understand this. 1. Where did you find the above two rpms? I double checked our ftp site and
didn't see them.

They are available quite a few places. For example:
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/3/srodzaj/1/search/openmotif
I suspect the "ccrma" means they were built at Stanford, and I would guess are a direct compilation of the Openmotif source on an F7 system.

2. What is the nature of the problem. Is it that those rpms are 32 bit and
you need a native 64 bit version?

No, Fedora (and other Linux distributions) allows using 32 bit binaries on 64 bit systems. I'll admit I forget what exactly the problem was in that case. I know that the main problem I have seen with Openmotif compiled versions of nedit, including the statically linked version provided by nedit, is that attempting to copy/paste with Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V (or the equivalent menu selection) causes a crash. Copy with the mouse select, middle button paste works fine. I believe those two options use a different clipboard, so it would appear one of the clipboards is broken.

As another data point, I have nedit compiled against Openmotif running fine on an FC4 system (which I have used for several years). If I remotely display that on my F7 system, and attempt to copy/paste, it also crashes. This leads me to believe that a change in the F7 x86_64 X server has introduced an incompatibility in the underlying X protocol pertaining to the clipboard. Whether the fault is in Motif or X, I don't know.
