I found that nedit removed some files if their names happened to be as same as 
the backup files that nedit tried to created. For example, I have two files in 
a certain directory: aaa and ~aaa. after I ran "nedit aaa", and then quit I 
found ~aaa was removed.

This doesn't happen often but nedit should give at least a warning.
