It's not really changing the subject. If you're a storage provider using zfs and you want to bill based on the amount of data the customer has uploaded, not the amount of data you ended up actually storing, you need a control to limit their ability to only upload a certain amount of data. They wouldn't be very happy if they were on the "10G per month plan" and got a bill for 15G because they had compressible data...
