I think most speakers remembered to summarize the question before answering.
Also, the location does not allow for a significantly better solution:
- there's not enough space between the rows for a dedicated person with a 
hand-held audience mic- passing audience mics around adds similarly high delays 
and breaks the almost conversation-like flow
of the QA part- fixed audience-mic stands in the room won't work (again, 
because of the room & seat layout)
What could be done if safety regulations and the room setup allow it:Install an 
omnidirectional mic above the audience to record the question + only enable it 
during the QA part.
At the volunteer-driven conferences I attent / help out at, we sometimes have a 
speaker briefing to- explain how we signal remaining time during the talk- 
emphasize that summarizing the audience's
questions is important
