@grwilson I think labeling is quite complicated. ZFS has subsumed many other,
traditionally separate, storage layer components (e.g. volume management, and
software RAID), but doesn't offer a complete replacement for partitioning and
labeling tools. The question is, should ZFS take this over too, or leave it to
other tools/OS subsystems? From my FreeBSD perspective, it is hard to imagine
ZFS growing all of the capabilities of GEOM. I could, however, see ZFS making
better use of GEOM to make administration even easier, but doing this in a
cross-platform compatible way would be challenging.
