KVM on what? SmartOS? Linux? FreeBSD? (I thought FreeBSD used bhyve now. And
I think bhyve runs OmniOS, see
https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-virtualization/2015-October/003833.html

ANYWAY, if you can tell me more about the KVM setup you have, I can see why the
sudden reboot happens.

As for OmniOS on virtualized environments:

- Matt already pointed out OmniOS works well on VMware. There was historical
need for a virtual floppy, as documented here
http://omnios.omniti.com/wiki.php/VMwareNotes - but I installed LTS from ISO
recently w/o this workaround.

- DO NOT USE THE r151012 AWS image. There are newer ones, but the wiki hasn't
been updated. I'm getting the people who spun the new AWS images to update the
wiki.

- OmniOS works well on virtualbox too. I just installed LTS (r151014) on (the
latest) VirtualBox for MacOS on my home MacBook Pro.

I wish you'd asked the OmniOS list about OmniOS problems. Someone would've
been able to help you, especially if you've ZFS bits to test.

If you run at least LTS, or even better the current Stable (r151016), we've
made it very easy to build stock illumos-gate, and allow people to modify it:

I hope this helps,
Dan
