Well we could decide to move on from the idea of the deserving poor we
have inherited from the old Vestry days, but none of the main parties
seem at all interested in so doing (actually I'm not sure any of the
minor parties have shown much inclination either). Being even more
radical we might try to have entrenched socio-economic rights but that
would be a bit radical I'm guessing.

Still its something that is important for social cohesion. We all have
an interest in it, but that common interest is obscured by the way
politics is described.
