Hello Nico

I read your document, and I must say i like the initiative. Personally i don't have strong opinions about this topic, although i think it is an important one. What i sometimes feel is that it becomes a little unclear where new functionality pops up (core or bridge) and it becomes even more unclear when different versions of the same appear in both places (search query) but different flavor/accent. It seems to me this kind of stuff should be resolved. Perhaps implementing the bridge interfaces in the core (and perhaps using decorators to add stuff like security, caching and so on) is the way, perhaps not.

What i think though is that this subject is a bit heavy for the mailing list. People try to find a hack proposal in it, which i think is not the idea, as it is more an invitation to a discussion.

Perhaps this topic is more worthy of a work group or so, because it is important enough, especially when you consider version 2.0 and perhaps accept backwards compatibility could be dropped for this release (i don't say that is the consensus though) That would be an important opportunity, and well worth thinking about.

regards,

Ernst

Hello Developers,

Just before I went on vacation, a month ago, I wrote a document with my thoughts on MMBase. I just added some additional stuff to it. I like to start a discussion how to restructure and improve the MMBase system to get ready for the next stage. We don't have to implement things right away, but it could be a goal in the far future where we all can work towards.

Regards,

Nico
