One question we have to answer here is if we need to include all compiled classes in the distro? If so, this would add more responsibility to the releaseteam, as they also have to include all kinds of lib files to make the distro.
Personally, I don't like that much. I am in favor of making the database classes and xml files available in a separate download (does not necessarily mean they can't live in the same cvs right now).
This counts for Informix and future Oracle, but perhaps we can do a similar thing with other databases.

As to the Oracle hack, I feel that is a bit late as we are in a freeze.
I recall you complained several times that the releases were poorly tested. Adding new stuff at the last moment is hardly a way to improve that ;)
But that's bygones. I do not use Oracle myself and it can hardly impact the code I use so I don't really mind if it's added now.

At any rate (independent on whether it gets in 1.6, which is up to the release team) you need a vote as you will be adding dependency to a 3rd party library.
