I think it is too short time for a 1.6.1 release, especially since this code need to be tested by corps other than the VPRO.
At any rate, you will need to call a vote, which takes three (work) days.
It could, possibly, be added to a 1.6.2 release (available end of feb?), if the chance is then rigorously tested (after all, we make a quite drastical change to a very often used routine).
