IMHO I think it's up to the maintainers I woont be happy fixing taglib bugs in 2 branches if we are not planning great changes for the taglib idem for rmmci of even de editwizards. Of course the branch doe not nececary hurt and we can decide what version of the applications to use when 1.7.1 of 1.8 comes. (I think the mix between applications and a branch is a bad choice)
