I'm not(yet) proposing to switch to maven. but I want to offer a
(better) alternative. For daily use I for example use eclipse to compile
projects

I think maven gives us most of the features we want for applications
(licence info,depenency info,developers list, activity, and of course a
build system and websites for the applications)
